Measurements of irradiation integral dose using LiF crystals

Description
The irradiation of a LiF crystal with an electronic beam produces color centers. The determination of absorption coefficient distribution, as a function of z-coordinate along the direction of irradiation, leads to the value of irradiation dose. This paper presents a method that allows measurements of high irradiation doses for gamma and electron sources. Experimental results show a linear variation of absorption coefficient of LiF crystals, measured at a 1.064 mm wavelength, with irradiation doses up to 109 Rad. When a cylindrical LiF monocrystals was longitudinally irradiated with electrons, a variation of absorption coefficient with the depth of electron penetration, which is a function of electron energy, was obtained.
