Decontamination of europium-(155+156) from samarium-153
Creators

Description
Irradiated samarium contains small quantities of europium-155 and europium-156. Experiments have been conducted to remove the europium based on, (i) the reducibility of Eu(+3) and (ii) cation-exchange chromatography. Results show that the ion-exchange method can be used satisfactorily for this purpose. About 90% of the samarium activity can be recovered with a 90% decontamination from the europium impurity.
