Experience with KWU steam generator tubing corrosion phenomena and their prevention
Description
The heat transfer tubes of recirculating steam generators (SG) of pressurized water reactors (PWR) have been affected by various corrosion phenomena within the last decade. The worldwide operating experience with SG corrosion phenomena is discussed briefly and compared with the KWU experience. It shows that KWU's experience is more favourable. It is demonstrated that tubing corrosion can be minimized or even avoided by a proper design concept for steam generators in connection with a compatible secondary side concept. A proper concept must include design, selection of materials and water chemistry. (author)
