Gas-discharge ion source for an electromagnetic separator on the heavy ion beam
Description
A design of an ion source is described for an electromagnetic mass separator on a beam of heavy ions representing a source of a gas-discharge type with effectively operating small-size cylindrical anode in the discharge chamber located under the cathode potential. The cathode is installed inside the cylindrical anode. The ion source possesses relatively high efficiency for a large variety of elements, including those that have high ionization potentials. Ionization efficiency for neon and argon is 4 and 15 per cent, respectively
