Development and implementation of an EPICS-based accelerator control interface and automated beam optimisation at the S-DALINAC

Description

This thesis is divided into two parts of improvements to the accelerator control system of the S-DALINAC. In the first part the finalisation of the EPICS migration to the S-DALINAC control system is presented. Therefore the input-outputcontrollers(IOCs) of the controls of magnets, the targets, and the video multiplexer are included into the EPICS framework. In addition to that the operator interfaces(OPIs) of the controls of magnets and targets are implemented. To configure these IOCs and OPIs a relational database is used, which was extended within this thesis. In- and output of magnet control is provided by rotating knobs and touch screens, which hardware were modernised. The realised steps are doing their part in reducing perturbations and ease up operations since. The second part covers the automated optimisation of beam optics. Therefore the software AreaDetector was integrated into the S-DALINAC control system. The functionality is shown by the example of setting a quadrupol magnet deflection-free fully automated. Also the flexibility enables other setups to be automatically optimised in the future.
