Description

The interaction between components in the MoO3 - MgO system, containing 0.1-78 mass. % MoO3 in the temperature range from room to 1150 deg, is studied using the electron spectroscopy of diffusion reflection, X-ray phase analysis and thermography. Electron spectra of the structures, formed at different stages of thermal transformations, are determined. In the MoO3-HgO system already at the stage of impregnation the interaction of components with the formation of hydrated forms of the basic magnesium molybdate and its double basic salts takes place. Thermal decomposition of the compounds proceeds through the stage of intermediate X-ray amorphous product of basic magnesium molybdate type and ends with the formation of highly disperse magnesium molybdate. The most complete transformation of components into MgMoO4 takes place only at 800 deg. Magnesium molybdate is characterized by a wide absorption band at 265 nm
