Theoretical spectroscopy and the fp shell

  • 1. Strasbourg-1 Univ., 67 (France). Lab. de Physique Nucleaire Theorique

Description

The recently developed quasiconfiguration method is applied to fp shell nuclei. Second order degenerate perturbation theory is shown to be sufficient to produce, for low lying states, the same results as large diagonalizations in the full (f7sub(/)2p3sub(/)2p1sub(/)2f5sub(/)2)sup(n) space, due to the operation of linked cluster mechanisms. Realistic interactions with minimal monopole changes are shown to be successful in reproducing spectra, binding energies, quadrupole moments and transition rates. Large shell model spaces are seen to exhibit typical many body behaviour. Quasiconfigurations allow insight into the underlying coupling schemes. (orig.)
