Phase composition effect on resistance to scaling of Hf-Si-O system alloys at 1570 K
Description
Phase composition of the HF-Si-O system alloys rich in hafnium at 1570 K is studied in order to find the reasons af varying resistance to scaling of the alloys. The resistance to scaling of the Hf-Si-O system alloys in the whole concentration range investigated was determined by their oxidation in the air at 1570 K for 15-120 min using samples with dimensions h=0.43 cm; d=1.6 cm. It is shown that introduction of more than 11.5 at.% Si in the Hf-Si-O system changes the phase composition of alloys from α+Hf2Si to d+Hf2Si+Hf5Si3 and sharply reduces resistance to scaling at this temperature
