Introductory remarks

The brief history is outlined of the establishment of the ESNA Working Group on Waste Heat Utilization. Among the main factors which led to this step was the need to enlarge food resources, to reduce current energy consumption and to limit increasing environmental pollution. Briefly discussed are problem areas linked with these factors; also presented are the results of certain experiments carried out in this field. The working group provides a forum for discussion, allows the exchange of information on research programmes and secures the quick transmission of obtained results. (Z.M.)
