Management of radioisotopes in laboratories of Rikkyo research reactor

  • 1. Rikkyo Uuiv., Inst. for Atomic Energy, Yokosuka, Kanagawa (Japan)

Description

Hot laboratories attached to a research reactor are put under the laws for regulating nuclear installations as well as for radiation protection. Triga-2 Rikkyo Reactor, providing thermal neutron flux of only 1012 cm-1s-1, has been used by joint researchers from universities across the country since 1974 for studying isotope production and trace elemental analysis using neutron activation. Administrative procedures for submitting samples to be irradiated, actual irradiation manuals, management for records and personnel from the point of view of radiation protection as well as management for solid, liquid and gaseous radioactive wastes are briefly described.
