Ablative radiotherapy for ultracentral lung cancers: Dosimetric, geometric, and volumetric predictors of outcomes and toxicity

Highlights: • Ultracentral lung cancers arise near the central airways and esophagus. • Ablative radiation therapy can control ultracentral tumors, but may cause toxicity. • This study correlates geometric and dosimetric data with outcomes and toxicity. • Lower minimum gross tumor volume dose is associated with increased recurrence risk. Ultracentral lung cancers arise near the proximal bronchial tree (PBT), trachea, or esophagus, and have been associated with worse outcomes and increased toxicity after radiotherapy. We sought to associate dosimetric and anatomic factors with oncologic outcomes and toxicities.
