Improved fabrication methods for fuels containing plutonium

Description

The selection of methods to be used depends on the condition of the Pu delivered. For Pu nitrate, the AUPuC-Ko-conversion method presents itself whereas for PuO2 the Ko grinding method (OKOM) should be applied. Both methods are far loss complex than the ALKEM standard method. No more than about 10-15% of all fuel produced are concerned. The OKOM method is already being applied in the fabrication of reload fuel elements for the KNK II reactor. (DG)

Die Wahl des einzusetzenden Verfahrens haengt vom Zustand des angelieferten Pu ab. Fuer Pu-Nitrat kommt das AUPuC-Ko-Konversionsverfahren, fuer angeliefertes PuO2 das Ko-Mahlverfahren zum Einsatz (OKOM). Sie sind nicht wesentlich aufwendiger als das ALKEM-Standardverfahren. Nur etwa 10-15% des gesamten in der Fertigung durchzusetzenden Brennstoffes sind betroffen. Das OKOM-Verfahren wird z.Zt. bereits in der Produktion der Nachlade-BE fuer den KNK II eingesetzt. (DG)
