Studies on the feasibility of production of 57Co by alpha bombardment of Mn and Ni targets

Description
The feasibility of producing 57Co (271.3 d) via the 55Mn(α, 2n)57Co reaction (55Mn-100%) was studied. The thick target yield of 57Co in the 28 to 18 MeV energy region was measured. However, the production of pure 57Co in high yields free of 58Co (70.8 d) and 56Co (78.8 d) is not feasible. A new method for ancillary production of 57Co was also studied. (author)
