Evidence of incommensurate structural fluctuations in Bi2Sr1.9La0.1CuO6+δ

Description
Using synchrotron X-rays, we evidenced in single crystals of Bi2Sr1.9La0.1CuO6+δ the existence of diffuse scattering streaks associated with the incommensurate modulation. Detailed structure factor calculations show that the diffuse scattering is due to two-dimensional correlations of phase defects, which we suggest to be related to the extra oxygen atoms. (orig.)
