Description
To prepare gadolinium by thermal reduction the enthalpies ΔH1133 of calcium interaction with gadolinium chloride in the melt and in solution with KCl, constituting -187.8 and -166.0 kJ/mol GdCl3 respectively, are determined. With the temperature increase ΔH values decrease. Formation enthalpies of solutions at 890 deg C by gadolinium chlorides with calcium and potassium chlorides which for infinitely diluted solutions constitute 48.0 kJ/mol CaCl2 and -54.0 kJ/mol KCl are determined. With the increase of CaCl2 concentration in solution to equimolar composition ΔH values decrease to 9.2 kJ/mol CaCl2, and in the system with KCl of the composition (GdCl3+3KCl) - to -25.0 kJ/mol KCl. Effect of CaCl2 and KCl on the main process procedure is considered
