Determining the environmental quality of La Cienaga Colombia. Caucasia - Antioquia - Colombia

Description

There were measured 22 physics, chemicals and biological parameters, including phytoplankton evaluation during four months in three measuring stations to achieve the characterization of La Cienaga Colombia as a representation of a wetland system of El Bajo Cauca Antioqueno with the intention to propose a method to detect the environmental quality of this type of ecosystems that let us fix some rules for his adequate management. The data was analyzed by determination of trophic, contamination and biotic state signs. There was also statistics analysis of principal components, and correspondence canonic analysis of La Cienaga Colombia. The average values of trophic state signs showed the eutrophication quality of the ecosystem; his aspect coincide especially whit the contamination index referred to the total phosphorus values. The biotic indicators showed uniform phytoplankton distribution, with low values in diversity, that is for being an eutrophication wetland; It was identified a total of 69 species, this species be long to 31 genres, 21 families and 6 divisions, important groups and representative in natural waters. It was detected in high percentage macrophyte presence, as a result of sediments contribution because the inappropriate land use in near zones that influences the wetland
