High strain rate compression behavior of epo cast 36 resin

  • 1. Tuskegee Inst., AL (United States). Centre for Advanced Materials

Description

High strain rate tests on epoxy based resin, Epo cast 36 have been performed in a compression Split Hopkinson Pressure Bar (SHPB) equipped with a momentum trapping device. The tests were conducted over a wide range of strain rates, from 630 to 2720 s/sup -1/. The effect of tect parameters (e.g. specimen geometry, striker bar length) on the mechanical behavior of the material has been investigated. The strain rate effects on the initial modulus, failure stress and failure strain have also been investigated. In addition low and medium range of strain rates. Optical Microscopy (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) have been used to determine the failure modes. (author)
