The heavy-ion total reaction cross-section and nuclear transparency

Description
The total reaction cross section of heavy ions at intermediate energies is discussed. The special role played by the individual nucleon-nucleon collisions in determining the nuclear transparency is analysed. Several competing effects arising from the nuclear and Coulomb interactions between the two ions are found to be important in determining σ(sub R) at lower energies. (Author)

Discute-se a secao de choque total de reacao de ions pesados a energias intermediarias. Analisa-se o papel especial desempenhado pelas colisoes nucleon-nucleon individuais na determinacao da transparencia nuclear. Varios efeitos competitivos surgindo das interacoes nuclear e coulombiana entre os dois ions sao importantes na determinacao de σ(sub R) a energias mais baixas. (L.C.)Additional details
