Selective sorption of cesium 137 on a clynoptylolite modified by hexacyanoferrites-II
Description
The presence of K-ions strongly deteriorates the sorbtion selectivity to 137Cs and 134Cs of Ca-clynoptylolite used in processing of liquid radioactive wastes from WWER-NPP. A method for Ca-clynoptylolite is proposed based on hexacyanoferrites-II containing about 15-30 mg/g iron, copper, nickel and zirconium. Compared to natural calcium clinoptylolite, the new sorbents showed 4-150 times higher selectivity coefficient to Cs and relatively high ion exchange capacity. The most pronounced effect has been obtained for iron-hexacyanoferrite-clynoptylolite. The modified sorbents have been used for purification of liquid radioactive concentrates from NPP Kozloduj. About 135 l concentrate with a total salt content of 170 g/l and K-ion concentration 8.3 g/l has been letting through a column with 1 l sorbent. As a result long-lived Cs-isotopes from liquid radioactive NPP-wastes were concentrated more than 100 times
