Inherited sterility in the progeny of irradiated male larvae of the tobacco moth Ephestia Elutelia (Hubner)
Description
Full grown larvae of Ephestia Elutella (Hubner) were irradiated with gamma doses from 30-400 Gy. Treating larvae with 400 Gy prevented their development to adults. The doses 90-120 Gy induced complete sterility for males and females irradiated as larvae, respectively. Males developing from larvae irradiated with 30 Gy were partially sterile and F1 progeny of irradiated male parents showed a high degree of sterility; male progeny were more affected than females. Recovery of reproduction capacity occurred in the F-2 and F-3 generations. 3 tab
