Description

The strength of Zr-N-Al2O3-base composite materials is studied. The strength of the compositions sintered in nitrogen is shown to be much lower than of those sintered in argon. Liquid-phase sintering significantly decreases the composite material strength as compared to solid-phase one. The strength of materials with a low Al2O3 content is the higher and depends on the thickness of oxide layer between the reinforcing grains. In the concentration range where two phase skeletons coexist, the strength is determined by the bond strength ratio both on the interface and on the one-phase boundary
