Description
The management and maintenance of conversion facility showed the results as follows; 1. Through checking each unit process and surveying radiation dose rate periodically in the conversion facility, we have confined that equipment and parts of each unit process are maintained on good condition. And the average value of space radiation dose rate, atmospheric dose rate and surface contamination are 1.9 - 2.8 μSv/hr, 0.02 - 0.11 Bq/m3 and 0.2 -1.07 kBq/m2, respective. 2. By the data measured from liquid levels and chemical composition to lagoons, it is expected that the liquid waste stored in lagoon can be evaporated completely after 6 - 7 years. Lagoon I has to be monitored continuously because of high uranium concentration, 3 - 4 gU/l, to the liquid waste in lagoon I. 3. Permanent magnetic actuated packless valve is designed. 4. Problems and recommendations for managing the conversion facility effectively. - Equipments and parts in the conversion facility have to be checked constantly and radiation survey also must be performed periodically. - Liquid waste stored in the lagoons have to be treated as soon as possible. And then solid uranium waste produced is stored for long term disposal. - The conversion facility is located in central place of KAERI site, so maintenance of cleanness around the facility is prerequisite for the safety provision. 10 tabs., 7 figs., 4 refs., (Author) .new
