Superdeformation in the mass 190 region
Description
Over the past two years some fourteen nuclei with twenty eight superdeformed bands have been reported in the mass 190 region and have revealed a wealth of new information regarding nuclear properties at large deformations and high spin. Questions regarding identical bands, pseudo-spin symmetry and octupole correlations in the second minimum are discussed. A review is given of the experimental status of superdeformation in the mass 190 region using the 193Hg nucleus as an example. (author)
