High spin states in 28Si via the 12C(20Ne, α) reaction

  • 1. Tokyo Univ., Tanashi (Japan). Inst. for Nuclear Study

Description

High-lying states especially high spin states near the yrast line at Ex = 13 - 25 MeV in 28Si, excited selectively by the 12C(20Ne,α)28Si reaction, were studied at 52 and 80 MeV by particle-particle correlation method. Branching ratios of α-decays obtained are clearly dependent on the states. Spin-parity assignment of 8+ and 10+ has been made for some states at Ex = 14 - 18 MeV. However, the 28Si states at Ex >= 20 MeV are found to decay predominantly to the excited states in 24Mg, and thus spin-parity assignments have not been made for these states. A coexistence of oblate and prolate bands, and the possible 12+ member are discussed. (author)
