Description
Medical exposure is the largest man-made source of ionizing radiation to the public and its trend is upwards. It is prominent characteristic of new progress for radiation protection field to strengthen radiological protection of medical exposure. Also the medical uses of ionizing radiation have developed with great rapidity in China. The old basic standards for protection against ionizing radiation had not fitted in with the needs of the medical exposure protection. The new national standards, 'Chinese Basic Safety Standards for Protection against Ionizing Radiation and for the Safety of Radiation Sources' (GB 18871-2002), prominently emphasizes control of medical exposure. Implementation of new basic standards will greatly improve the radiological protection of medical exposure in China
