Hyperfrequency focusing system for a beam of particles accelerated in air accelerator of cyclotron type
Description
In accelerators of the cyclotron types (cyclotron or synchrocylotron) the beam of charged particles emitted by a particle source located in the centre of such machines is subjected to the horizontal and vertical components of the high frequency electric field generated betwen the accelerator electrodes or 'Dees' of the accelerator, the vertical component of the H.F. electric field having a successively focusing and defocusing effect on the beam, depending on the phase in which the H.F. electric field is when the particles enter it. The hyper-frequency focusing system described in the invention makes it possible to modify in a proper manner the focusing and defocusing effect, in the vertical plane, of the H.F. electric field on the beam of particles adjacent to the particle source
