Description

This paper reports on the construction of a miniature transducer module based on the highly magnetostrictive material Terfenol-D. Its capability of ac field detection at frequencies from 1.5 to 50 kHz is examined. Asymmetric surface mode vibrations of the Terfenol were observed and their impact on the operation of a diode laser sensor is discussed. (orig.)
