Monitoring of the development of wood energy and industrial wood in the regions of North-Eastern France - Results 2014. The development of wood energy continues in North-Eastern France
Description
Wood is an important source of renewable energy, offering multiple environmental and socio-economic benefits. For forest owners and manufacturers, it can guarantee outlets, but it can also be a source of competition for the supply of packaging, panel and paper manufacturers. In 2007, the 5 regional inter-professions of the Grand-Est forestry and wood industry set up an observatory of wood energy production and consumption. The Nord Picardie Bois inter-profession joined the study in 2013. The aim of the study is to identify the wood energy market and its evolution in terms of production and consumption. It also aims to identify the problems encountered by the various players. The figures available date from 2014 and show an upward trend in wood energy consumption and production. However, these figures need to be qualified with the succession of mild winters and the cyclical fall in fossil fuel prices, which are causing a slowdown in wood energy requirements.
