Microradiography of high temperature reactor fuel after irradiation
Description
This technique has been applied to the non-destructive control of high temperature reactor fuel after irradiation. An apparatus has been designed to allow the simultaneous radiography of about 60 samples. The conditions of obtention of the X ray pictures were tested on an irradiation experiment under a flux of 3.5 1021 n.cm-2 EDN. The X ray pictures were made after the fuel had cooled for one month. Time of exposure for each picture was about 10 seconds. The pictures were then enlarged, yielding excellent results up to 125 times enlargement. With the help of this apparatus which can provide records as well as visual examination, the selection of particles for metallographic examination has been greatly simplified

Cette technique a ete appliquee au controle non destructif apres irradiation de particules combustible pour reacteur a haute temperature. Un dispositif a ete realise qui permet de radiographier ensemble une soixantaine de particules. Les conditions d'obtention des cliches ont ete testees sur une experience d'irradiation ayant subie une influence de 3,5x1021n.cm-2 EDN. Les radiographies ont ete effectuees apres un temps de refroidissement du combustible de 1 mois. Le temps necessaire a la realisation d'un cliche est de l'ordre de 10 secondes. Des agrandissements des cliches ont ete effectues. Les resultats obtenus sont excellents jusqu'a un grandissement de 125. L'utilisation de cet appareillage permettant d'obtenir des resultats en meme temps que l'examen visuel a permis de simplifier considerablement le choix des particules a examiner par metallographieFiles
