The application of threshold monitoring which is used for evaluating seismic network

Description
Evaluating the monitoring capability of seismic network is an important task of the CTBT Beijing national data center (NDC), A new method named Threshold Monitoring (TM) using real-time seismic data to evaluate the monitoring capability of seismic network is introduced. Firstly, the theory of TM is described, including a formula using short-term average and epicentral distance to compute event's magnitude. Some stations in Xinjiang region are used to form a seismic network, and ML from this regional seismic catalog is used to correct the magnitude calculation. Then a vivid example is given to be used for showing the application of site-specific and Regional TM method. The monitoring capability of the seismic network to Xinjiang and its neighbour has been evaluated primarily. The result shows the validity and practicability of TM method used for the evaluation.
