Photon absorption by two protons in 3He

  • 1. Department of Physics, Tohoku University, Sendai (Japan)

Description

A photon absorption process, by two protons, is newly observed in the 3He(γ,pp)n reaction measured by a large-acceptance detector. The differential and total cross sections are determined in the wide photon-energy range of Eγ=200 - 500 MeV. A comparison of the total cross section with that of deuteron photodisintegration shows that photon absorption by two protons takes place through the E2 transition process. Photon absorption by three nucleons is also identified. (author)
