Automatic fuel shuffling
Description
Fuel shuffling can be implemented automatically in a safe, flexible and simple manner with modern microprocessor-based systems. The economic benefits of such practices can be large; the retention of elements 1 and 8 while 2 to 7 are replaced (known as double dwell) will result typically in a 25% saving in the fuel bill over one fuel cycle. The paper considers the new fuel shuffling system for Hinkley Point A, as an examples of the way in which such a system can be implemented. (author)
