Widening of mediastinum with persistent left superior Vena cava - CT diagnosis

Description
Described in this paper are radiographic findings recorded from a case of persistent left superior vena cava which grew manifest by widening of the left contour of the upper mediastinal region. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) was undertaken to clear up suspicion of mediastinal tumour and revealed double superior vena cava. The diagnosis was then confirmed by digital subtraction venography. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Im vorliegenden Fall werden die radiologischen Befunde bei links persistierender Vena cava superior beschrieben. Im Thoraxuebersichtsbild zeigte sich eine Verbreiterung des oberen Mediastinums nach links. Zur Abklaerung des Verdachts auf einen Mediastinaltumor erfolgte eine computertomographische Untersuchung mit intravenoeser Kontrastmittelapplikation. Hierbei stellte sich eine Doppelanlage der Vena cava superior dar. Die Diagnose wurde durch digitale Subtraktionsvenographie gesichert. (orig.)Additional details
