Description
The results of investigations into the voltage-current characteristics (VCC) and the photoresponse in the infrared region of the spectrum in solid solutions of n-Cdsub(x)HgsUb(1-x)Te in strong magnetic fields are given. Solid solutions of Cdsub(x)Hgsub(1-x)Te with 0.2<x<0.33 were investigated in magnetic fields of up to 55 kOe at temperatures of 4.2 and 1.6 K. The measurements were carried out in crossed magnetic and electric field. The photoconductivity was excited with the aid of an H2O laser at a wavelength of 27.97 μm. An S-shaped part of VCC and noise-like generation arising on attainment of the critical field were detected. The effect of the temperature and the magnetic field on the generation frequency, which varies from several tens of Hz to several kHz, is investigated. The results are attributed to the overheating instability of electrons in the crossing field (the ''narrow phonon neck'')
