Spin and orbital magnetic moments in actinide compounds

Description
The nature of the magnetism of 5f(actinide) compounds is dominated by the large spin-orbit interaction (because l=3) and the hybridisation of the 5f electrons with other electron states (because of the large spatial extent of the 5f electrons). A key question is what happens to the individual spin and orbital moments. We report on neutron experiments to measure these components. (orig.)
