Study of neutron-rich nuclei near 132Sn

  • 1. Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkatta (India)

Description

Doubly magic Z=50, N=82, 132Sn exhibits the strongest shell closure of all nuclei. It is manifested most obviously through the large energy gap between the ground state and the first excited state in 132Sn (E(2+)=4.041 MeV). The study of nuclei in this mass region has opened up a possibility to explore the properties of simple states in this region and indeed nuclei with few valence nucleons around 132Sn show simple structure as in the 208Pb region
