Description

Fluoride contamination in groundwater is observed in many states of India. Daily consumption of groundwater containing fluoride concentration above the permissible limit can cause major health issues like skeletal fluorosis. This study presents a comparison of a few readily available low cost adsorbents such as brick powder, wood charcoal and orange peel for the removal of fluoride from water samples. It is observed that wood charcoal and orange peel is comparatively better adsorbents with a fluoride removal percentage of 75.8% and 83.5% respectively. (author)
