Description

Radiation Medicine Centre (RMC) was founded as a Division of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in September 1963 by Dr Homi Jehangir Bhabha with the mandate of providing healthcare services through peaceful uses of atomic energy. Since its inception, it has been contributing to the field of nuclear medicine and is presently focused on advances in this speciality. Nuclear medicine is a clinical modality that engages unsealed radioactive sources of short-lived radionuclides for various diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. 131I, 125I, 177Lu, 153Sm, 99mTc, 68Ga, 18F etc. are some of the radionuclides being handled in this facility for variety of in vivo and in vitro diagnostic procedures and in vivo therapeutic practices. Annually more than 1500 patients undergo various types of therapeutic procedures in RMC and the list of pharmaceuticals used for in vivo diagnostic studies is given. Total amounts of 131I, 177Lu and 99mTc handled annually in the facility are around 4500 GBq, 3300 GBq and 3700 GBq respectively
