MR imaging of shoulder instability
Description
This paper determines the diagnostic performance of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging in the evaluation of the glenoid labrum. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Sixteen shoulders in 15 patients with shoulder instability and nine asymptomatic volunteers were studied with MR imaging. Using a 1.5-T superconducting magnet, we obtained proton-density and T2-weighted axial 3-mm sections with a 1- mm intersection gap. A 24-cm field of view, a shoulder coil, a 192 x 256 matrix, and two signal averages were used. Operative results were obtained in all 16 symptomatic shoulders. Ten shoulders had abnormalities of the glenoid labrum. Two orthopedic radiologists interpreted the MR images of the patients and volunteers without knowledge of the clinical history of surgical results
