Description

The paper reminds some issues related to the general lay-out solutions for Cernavoda NPP, which have been discussed during the starting period of the construction work on the site, 1979-1983 years. A part of those solutions - rejected for some reasons - would have been able to create an entirely different 'look' of the site and its neighbourhood, if compared with the present real image, which became so familiar to us. The issues brought to attention are dealing with: decision about the location of Unit 1 on Cernavoda site, the late birth of Unit 5, 'twin'- units stage of the design, solution for the discharge of the condenser cooling water, the plan of the roads in the area and the profile of 'Saligny' hill (on S-E border of the site). Also, some proposed design changes are mentioned from those which have been discussed in 1985-87 with the aim to reduce the volume and the material costs required for the construction work (target imposed by former country's rulers): roofless deaerator bay, sizes reduction for the spent fuel bay and for the service building.
