A rotating target holder

Description
A rotating holder for low-melting-point targets has been constructed. It makes its possible to increase the maximum beam current by an order of magnitude without melting a target with a low thermal conductivity such as selenium. This experimental result has been checked and rather well reproduced in theoretical heat-flow calculations. The calculations were also done for a good heat conductor (cadmium) and it was found that such a target requries a very high frequency in order to be cooled by the rotation. (orig.)
