Distribution coefficient model for zirconium in nitric acid - tri-butyl phosphate/normal paraffin hydrocarbon system
- 1. Reprocessing Group, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam (India)
Description
A thermodynamic model is presented for the extraction of zirconium by tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) in the present investigation. The model equations are based on chemical mass action principles in which the effects of metal complexation and activity coefficients are considered. Activity coefficients in electrolyte solution are calculated using the data available in literature. The model works well in predicting the extraction of zirconium by TBP at various nitric acid concentrations. The influence of concentration of nitric acid and uranium on the extraction behaviour of zirconium has also been analysed. (author)
