Preparation and characterization of superconducting TmBa2Cu3O7-δ single crystals
- 1. Univ. of California, San Diego, La Jolla, CA (USA)
Description
The authors discuss how they have grown single crystals of TmBa2Cu3O7-δ with superconducting transition temperatures close to 90 K using excess Ba and Cu as a flux. The mixture is heated up slowly to --10200C and then cooled down at an even slower rate. Millimeter-size single crystals in the form of thin platelets were found to crystallize along the crucible walls. Magnetic susceptibility measurements have revealed a substantial anisotropy with the easy axis of magnetization perpendicular to the c-axis
