WLM-meter based on new relation between the activity of 210Po and PAEC

Description

In this paper is established a linear relation between potential alpha energy concentration (PAEC) and the activity of 210Po incorporated in the surface of a glass object. The activity 210Po is related not to the radon (222 Rn) itself, but to the total amount of deposited short lived radon progeny onto the surface in the period of exposure. The total deposition is proportional to the concentration of short lived radon progeny, which can be expressed in the form of PAEC(WL). The relation between 210Po activity in the subsurface layer and the average PAEC during the exposure of the object is found using the Jakobi-Porstendorfer predictive model. The total cumulative exposure (X) is given as X=PAEC t, where t (years) is duration of exposure. In this way, the glass surface can be as a Working Level Month (WLM)-meter. (author)
