Evaluation of the quality of a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical preparation

Description

The author proposes a mathematical method of comparative quantitative evaluation of the quality of a radiopharmaceutical preparation allowing one to take an account of its preparation distribution in the body, the output of detected radiation, the efficiency of recording the latter and the radiation dose for the patient. The use of the method was exemplified by the preparations of 3 iodine radionuclides. The preparation with 123I proved to be most effective for vizualization of the thyroid gland. The quality criterion values taking into consideration nucleo-physical, dosimetric and biological characteristics of the preparation were calculated for 10 radionuclides (in the form of 17 compounds) used or recommended for scintigraphy of bones. The highest value of the quality criterion was obtained for pyrophosphate 99Tc which should be considered the optimal osteotropic preparation studied.
