Computer-assisted radionuclide angiography (CARNA)

Description
Computer-assisted radionuclide angiography (CARNA) reflects unilateral cerebral perfusion deficits without differentiating between delayed and deficient perfusion. The sensitivity of this technique is considerably higher than that of purely visual inspection of cranial radionuclide angiograms (80% vs. 60%). Changes in vascular morphology detected by Doppler sonography, radiographic angiography or digital subtraction angiography, may be evaluated by CARNA with regard to haemodynamic effects on the corresponding supply areas. Thus, CARNA has proven useful in diagnosis of cerebrovascular dysfunction. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Die computerassistierte Radionuklidangiographie (CARNA) erfasst die einseitige Minderperfusion einer Hemisphaere ohne Differenzierung zwischen Verminderung und Verzoegerung. Gegenueber der rein visuellen Beurteilung erhoeht sich die Nachweisempfindlichkeit einseitig betonter kranialer Gefaessprozesse von 60% auf 80%. Bei dokumentierten gefaessmorphologischen Veraenderungen (Doppler-Sonographie, konventionelle Angiographie, digitale Subtraktionsangiographie) erlaubt die CARNA eine Bewertung der haemodynamischen Auswirkung solcher Stenosen im zugehoerigen Versorgungsgebiet. Die CARNA hat sich damit in der Diagnostik zerebraler Gefaesserkrankungen bewaehrt. (orig.)Additional details
