Threshold effects in the decay of the isoscalar giant quadrupole resonances in sup(58,62)Ni

Description
The charged particle (c) decay of the isoscalar giant quadrupole resonances (GQR) in sup(58,62)Ni and of the inelastic continuum has been measured in sup(58,62)Ni (α, α'c) coincidence experiments at Esub(α) = 155 MeV. Pronounced threshold effects predicted by Hauser-Feshbach (HF) calculations were observed. The data indicate the dominance of nucleon decay from the GQR's in sup(58,62)Ni and rule out the dominant α decay reported previously. (author)
