Oxygen reactivity of La2O3-Cr2O3-CaO MHD-related materials

Description
Reactions between oxygen and La2O3, CaO, and Cr2O3 oxide powder mixtures (perovskites) have been investigated. Phase relationships in these quaternary oxides system have been determined at various temperatures. Some crystallographic properties of solid solutions of La/sub 1-x/Ca/sub x/CrO3 that may be used to make heating elements for high temperature furnaces or MHD electrodes have been investigated as a function of x. Oxygen reactions lead to an important oxygen dissolution into La2O3, CaO, Cr2O3 mixtures with basic oxides of rich CaO and La2O3 composition. The moles of dissolved oxygen per mole of chromium present in the liquids have been determined for some compositions
