Breakdown in a collisional gas by the electromagnetic wave excited by betatron oscillations of an injected relativistic electron beam
Description
A nonlinear theory is devised of dense gas break-down by the electromagneti ic wave excited in the course of the development of the dissipative tnstability of the relativistic electron beam the particles of which oscillate at a betatron n frequency in the current proper magnetic field. The cases of major and minor requencies of collisions as compared with the radiation frequency are considered d. In both cases the break-down is shown to proceed efficiently, if the collision frequency near the ionization threshold is high as compared with the i instability increment. Maximum permissible densities of plasma the produced in various regimes are determined
