Description

The spinel CoAlFeO4 is prepared and studied by neutron diffraction technique over the temperature range 78 =< T =< 475 K. The cation distribution is found to be (Co/sub 0.62/Fe/sub 0.38/) [Co/sub 0.38/Fe/sub 0.62/Al]O4 for an oxygen parameter of U = 0.3854 +- 0.0005. The magnetic structure analysis of the neutron diffraction pattern at 78 K reveales Neel type ferrimagnetism with average magnetic moments of the A- and B-sites as = (2.95 +- 0.02) BM and = (1.90 +- 0.02) BM, respectively. The magnetic transition temperature is found to be T/sub c/ = (405 +- 5) K. (author)
